Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body of a Terre Haute man who fell from a fishing boat Sunday in Putnam County.
James P.E. Camp, Jr., 50, was pronounced dead at Putnam County Hospital, according to a news release from Indiana DNR Law Enforcement.
Camp was participating in a bass fishing tournament on Glenn Flint Lake, about six miles northwest of Greencastle. His fishing partner reported hearing a splash when Camp fell into the water, according to the DNR.
The fishing partner tried retrieving Camp with a fishing net and called 911 shortly after 8 a.m., Indiana Conservation Officer Nathan Lutz told the Tribune-Star.
Four Indiana Conservation Officer divers searched for Camp while additional officers canvassed the surface in boats.
Divers recovered the man about one hour and 40 minutes after he entered the water, Lutz said. Officers had to shift their search because Camp was not where witnesses originally reported he fell in.
Emergency personnel immediately began CPR on Camp and continued working on him during the ambulance ride, Lutz said.
Camp was not wearing a life jacket at the time he was found, according to DNR.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
